I think we all have a season that suits us best. Some feel content with the moderate fall, some happily enveloped by the winter darkness, others cheerful as spring arrives. I always feel my best as these summer days stretch their arms wide. No matter how sunny or overcast, the day light feeds me.

That said, I'm off on a brief stint to the East Coast for family time and to celebrate the union of a wonderful couple. While my trip will be pretty short, I'm going to be taking a vacation from most of the cyberworld for a bit longer. I want to soak in as much of these days as possible.

For those staying local and looking to try something new and/or stimulating-in-a-different-way, I leave you with five varying Wellness happenings that won't stretch your wallet:

Okay, I know I specifically said I was taking a break from the blog to bow down to the summer goodness AND I'm typically sharing resources closer to home, BUT I wanted to share an email I received about an offering for those in the wellness/helping professions. Check it out:

Greetings - my name is Kesha Fikes and I practice a somatic bodywork and movement therapy called the Danis Bois Method (DBM); it's new to the US. DBM evolved in France from osteopathy and studies on proprioception enrichment and transpersonal experience. I write today to invite you to experience a complimentary somatic movement class, an offering I'm making to wellness professionals. I teach in Berkeley, at Hatha Yoga Shala East Bay (Fridays, 12-1:15pm, 2050 4th. St.). Please feel free to bring along a friend or colleague or two - they too are welcome to this complimentary experience :-)

In the effort to spread the word about this little-known practice, I am also offering complimentary 75-minute manual therapy sessions (in Berkeley or Los Gatos) to individuals in the wellness field. I invite you to experience this beautiful work as well. To learn more about DBM please feel free to email me and/or browse my site <thecsbmt.com>. (Please note that my site is not yet updated for summer classes, but we are currently meeting every Friday from 12 to 1:15.) Below is also a brief description about this work. I look forward to any questions you may have. And I sincerely hope that this notice is not intrusive

The Danis Bois Method includes a movement therapy, Sensorial Re-education, which introduces students to slow movement sequences that explore how the body glides through space in the execution of ordinary gestures. The aim is to witness how sensory perception of subjective movement enhances biomechanical function and transforms our relationship to movement, ourselves and to our environments. Such perception can draw attention to stressful/painful movement habits that block our sense of balance, timing, orientation in space, etc. Sensorial Re-education explores the psychophysical learning potential in ordinary gestures – the coordination and expression of amplitude, rhythm, velocity, trajectory, affect, and more.

DBM also includes a manual therapy - Fasciatherapy - which mobilizes bodily elements that are encapulated by fascia - bones, muscles, ligaments, blood vessels, nerves, etc. We use a gentle and compassionate form of touch that creates a profound and yet non-invasive inner stretching of all the body's tissues while heightening sensory awareness of embodied experience. Every stroke follows a slow, pre-gestural movement that glides in a designated direction. (The rhythm we follow is about 1/2 the speed of prm/the cranial rhythmic impulse.) This indicator enables the practitioner to intimately dialogue with the person via the tissues. In addition, the practitioner's job is to guide the student to perceive this inner movement with precision. The aim is to enrich the quality of a person's presence to themselves through their experience of intelligent, inner animation.

I deeply appreciate your reading this.

Kindly,
